Steve Jobs has resigned as Apple CEO “effective immediately”
In a surprising message on Wednesday night, the board of Apple announced that Steve Jobs is resigning as CEO of the company. Apple COO Tim Cook was named the successor to Jobs, “and plans to begin taking over as CEO with immediate effect.
“Extraordinary vision and leadership of Steve saved Apple, and controls the position as the most innovative and valuable technology in the world”, an Apple board member Art Levinson, President of Genentech said in a statement. “Steve has been part of many successes of Apple, and has attracted and inspired by the great creative team of Apple and world-class management team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve, Apple will continue to serve its unique insights, creativity and inspiration. ”
In 2004, Jobs was complicated surgery, but successful to remove pancreatic cancer, and he returned to work in a few months. Although this procedure is a form of success of pancreatic cancer that Jobs was also removes a lot of the pancreas and digestive tract. This may lead to further complications, such as dramatic weight loss and hit Labour visible ‘in 2008.
In 2009, Jobs went on leave to six months sick again, it was later revealed that Steve Jobs had had a liver transplant. All seemed well after his return until January 2011, where Jobs announced a new time he went on sick leave, this time Apple fans felt he could not come back.
Below is the text of the letter of employment “to the board and the Apple community which has been circulated on Wednesday night:
To the Board of Directors of Apple and the Apple community:
I have always said that if ever there came a day when I could no longer fulfill my duties and expectations as CEO of Apple, I’d be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day comes.
So, Apple CEO to resign. I want to serve, if the Council deems it appropriate, as the Chairman of the Board, Director and Apple employee.
What are the consequences of my going, I strongly recommend to implement our succession plan and the name of Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.
I think the bright days and more innovative Apple is ahead of her. And we hope to see and contribute to its success in a new role.
I made some of the best friends of my life from Apple, and I thank you all for many years that we can work with you.
